Green is in

Again, I was in the grocery
last week & noticed the sm GreenBag
stall near the check-out counter. These
are recyclable green bags that you can use
instead of the yellow plastics.

Here's what i learned about the GreenBAg :

* It was given away for free the 1st 3 months & is now being sold at less than P100.

* It can actually last for 2 years with the weekly grocery trips

* You get 2 extra points on your sm advantage card whenever you use a greenbag & there is a maximum of 3 greenbags per transaction

* reduces oil consumption & operating costs

* helps solid waste management

* plastic bags clog the waterways & kill marine life

* most plastics are non-biogradable & burning it is harmful to the ozone layer

SM hypermart launched SM CARES (Concerned And Responsible Eco-Shoppers) last July & the greenbag was its 1st project. They also have the waste trade market where you can exchange plastic bottles, cardboard, ink cartridges & other recyclabe materials for school supplies, tissues,hangers & other housewares.

You don't need to have a green thumb to help save the environment, maybe just a greenbag. Little things like using these recyclable bags go a long way. There is still something you can do about global warming.

Mother earth will thank you =)

I bought some stuff from SM Cebu and the Blue plastic bag says it's Biodegradable. SM's following the footsteps of WalMart, which, too, went green. :D

Good post!
